“Do you ‘ear that?”. His voice was low and hushed.
Clem sat bolt upright, old habits kicking in. She concentrated for a second, straining her ears to listen. Somewhere in the darkness below a faint beeping noise could be heard.
“What the hell’s that old man, did you drop your metal fishing rod or something?”
“I didn’t do anything. But thank you very much for the vote of confidence.”
He waddled over to the edge of the platform staying in his crouching position and peered over.
“There’s some kind of blue light blinking down there.” He said, turning his head round to face Clem again. “I think we should find a way down. It could be something valuable.”
His eyes sparkled in the dim grey morning light and Clem knew there was no way he was going to let this go.
“No way.” She replied, half-heartedly. “How’re we going to get all the way down there?”
With a burst of energy Smokey sprang up in star jump fashion, landing precariously close to the edge of the platform. Walking over to his pack he opened it up and began rummaging inside.
