"Team Good Morning. Before we get into the meeting. I would like to introduce someone. We have a new recruit. She has joined us yesterday. Her resume is pretty impressive. She has joined us as a technical analyst. Team please welcome Aishwarya.", Chris says.
" Thank you Chris. I am Aishwarya Menon from Telangana, a state of India. I recently came to the States over a month ago. I do have an experience of over 3 years as a technical analyst. Come over to my cabin to have a chat whenever you are free.", I say casually. I feel so happy and ecstatic. Everyone cheers and rushes to talk to me.
Except one man. He is staring at me with brooding eyes stabding near the corner. He looks magnificient. Tall. Muscular. Lean, athletic build. Ocean-green eyes. Jet-Black hair. Fair skin with a hint of tan.
I avert my eyes from him. No one is going to rain on my parade today.
I work at VelHans Technologies. We are an AI startup.
Just then a pretty lady approaches me. Behind her is a man. He looks charming in a boyish sort of way.
They introduce themselves.
"Hi, am Claire. And this is Liam. We both are fron the HR department."
"Nice to meet you. Claire and Liam."
"Girl.. your skin looks so gorgeous. And your hair is soo pretty. I am so jealous.", Claire exclaims.
I blush.
"Calm down Claire. You are scaring Aishwarya."
"No, its fine. You look gorgeous too Claire."
"I know we can be great work pals. Let us go to the cafe nearby for coffee.. we can catch up. What do you say. I will tell you everything ya need to know."
"Thanks for the offer Claire. That is wonderful.", I respond, grateful to get acquainted with two friendly faces.
I look around and see his eyes on me. Staring at me. He looks angry.
"Who is he?", I ask Claire.
She turns around and finds the guy I am referring to.
"Oh that.. that is Adam Dralin. He is a business analyst. He is one taciturn man. Always brooding. He just keeps to himself most of the time. He doesn't bother anyone. You will get used to him."
Oh I hope so. I inwardly say.
After hanging out with Claire and Liam at the coffee house, we return back. I bump into someone in the hallway.
"I am so sorry.", I say.
"Watch where you are going. I can't believe Chris hired a stupid person to be a technical analyst."
I look up stunned. It is Adam. And he is very angry.
"Well, I did say I was sorry. Mr. Dralin", I say just as angrily.
He walks past me without saying another word.
What a weird and bizarre man. I think to myself.
"Guys an informal announcement. My wife and I are celebrating our 10 year anniversary this weekend on saturday. Would love to have you there. Starts at 7pm. Stay for dinner. My place. I will mail the address.", Chris announces.
Everyone cheers.
"Aish, you should definitely come. What are you going to wear?"
"What is the dress code?", someone asks.
"Party wear.", Chris replies.
Cheering ensues.
After work hours, as I prepare to leave. I see that the floor is almost empty. I make my way to the parking garage to get in my car. Just then, I feel someone behind me.
"What are you waiting for brownie? An elephant ride? We don't have those in America", says a voice behind me.
I turn around stunned. He stares me up and down and laughs and leaves.
Sighing, I get into my car. I drive home trying to keep the unpleasant things at bay.
