Brett tuned out the girl and her lealty. His face was stormy and his mind was tumultuous.
Devon raced to catch up to him, tranquil in her ignorance. He knew her mind was quiescent, so unlike his own. She grabbed his arm. "Brett?"
"Devon..." Brett took a deep breath, stuffing his hands into his pockets. "I can't stay here, Devon."
"What do you mean?"
"I hate it here. This school, this city; I can't take it anymore. And opportunities like this are a rarity. I've been invited to join that acting company! They offered me an audition in a new play, 'Ethereal Realms'. Isn't that great?"
Devon's face lit up, her expression a match for Brett's jovial smile.
"If you're getting out," she whispered. "I'm coming with."
