I slammed my door closed, throwing my books onto my bed and slumping down into my chair.
“You know what Flick? You are the only being in this world who understands me,” I said, lightly tapping the glass of my pet fish’s tank.
“Rough day at school huh?” Flick said.
Flick. Said?
“W-what the heck?!” I stammered, falling out of my chair and shaking my head. I pinched myself hard just in case I was dreaming.
”Please, let’s not make this a scene.”
”Flick…? Y-you just spoke, human words…”
”Really? I hadn’t noticed.” He retorted.
I climbed back onto my desk chair cautiously.
”Why is this now a thing? I’ve had you for a year and you just now bring up that your brain is advanced enough to speak?”
“You never gave me a reason too. But please, let me explain. Basically an artificial intelligence experiment gone wrong led me to become useless to the scientists. What they didn’t know was that it worked. I just didn’t tell them. Now here I am, in the possession of a moody teenager to suffer away in a tank that’s much too small by the way.” He swam in circles, his blue tail swishing around.
Then, I shot up in bed, still dazed from my freaky dream.
