I never expected today to start out this way. A warning would’ve been nice but then again a life of a maid is full of surprises
“Hello and welcome all maids and butlers”
I stand next to other maids as we all are huddled in his living room. I look around and see James fixing his hair and a woman dressed in all black standing on top of the marble kitchen counter
“Mr. Ryder will be hosting a three day party. This is due to the Mtv awards and music show being hosted here in the big Apple. We have all recruited you here to act as service for the guest. You will be fitted today and expected to start your first day today at evening. Any intolerant behavior will result in your expulsion from this company. Now we will start fittings in 5”
The lady steps down and chatter fills the room as I look around for James
”here I am”
james scares me from behind as I jump a little then turn around
“you sneaky”
james smiles and we both move to a less crowded space
“I can’t believe I’m going to see the biggest stars grace their existence in this room tonight”
james beaming smile probably can be seen from mars as he turns into a full blown school girl.
“james we most likely can’t even have conversations with them that doesn’t involve what type of champagne would they like or if they want to smoke a pack or Cubans”
I look around the packed living room and cross my arms. My eyes dim a bit as I let my head hang low
“what’s wrong with you”
james bends down a bit and looks at me. I look at him back then sit up
“I just you know. I wished I was a person attending these parties. I wish I could be a star and you know grace everyone with my presence”
james looks at me
“but you already do”
I laugh hard and punch james arm
”don’t lie”
james rolls his eyes
”but I’m not”
we both look at each other and he opens his mouth to say something but he gets interrupted
“alright fitting time”
All the maids stand in a line as one by one we get measured by a man with a measuring tape. I stand still as I watch the measuring tape wrap around my bust and waist
“a bit chunky aren’t you”
the man steps back and writes down my size
“and you care why”
he places my uniform in my hand and I walk away. Who cares if I’m Chunky, all that matters is that I do my job right. I slip into the far end bathroom that is least occupied and I lock the door behind me and stare into the mirror. Can my presence really grace others.., Not if they find out that I’m a maid. Freaking James I swear always saying stuff that makes no sense. I slip into the form fitting wear and squeeze the last two buttons on my shirt as I pray to all the high heavens that this thing doesn’t end up a slingshot. I brush my hair back with water and open the door
”what are you doing in here”
I scream in shock and fear as I step back and look up.
“Mister um”
I panic as his name slips out my mind
“Ryder”
I shakily smile and nod fast
”yes mister Ryder I came here because all the other bathrooms are packed with people hehe”
I show all my teeth as my heart beats faster and faster. Please don’t fire me. He looks around the bathroom then finally back at me
“get out”
I zoom out the bathroom like a tornado and back with the general public
”you look like you seen hell and didn’t like it”
james stands next to me and I take a long awaited deep breath out
“I have came across the devil and left unscratched amen”
james laughs and rubs my back as I regain my composure
“by the way that shirt looks tight on you”
james looks away and I look down at my shirt and see a ripple in the midsection of my chest
“yeah it does but luckily we wear a coat over so-“
”ooop you didn’t hear. The maids don’t wear coats only the butlers”
my jaw drops as in slow motion I watch the fitter and the lady walk out of the apartment
“dammit”
i suck my teeth and sit up straight as any more movement can make this shirt bust. Time trickles down as we watch mister Ryder exit the penthouse for his performance and appear on tv
“hello hello New York I’m Sebastian Ryder and today I can’t believe I’m hosting the annual Mtv music awards”
I hear the loud cheers from the crowd as flashing lights appear everywhere. His long curly black hair conveniently falls across his chiseled jaw as the cameras circle around him
”what a man”
the maid next to me bites her lip and i slowly turn my attention back towards the tv.
“I’m so glad to be here today because we have some new artist, old and talented”
the crowd laughs and he wraps his ring decked out fingers across the microphone as he speaks. I find myself watching the show as he somewhat makes it interesting. The performances were good and my main band bts performed so it was always a blessing to see them. After all the performances Ryder appears on screen again and he smirks then talks
“I can’t wait to have a rocking after party. Until next time New York”
music plays as the live show comes to a close. We all get into place as the champagne drinks are all cooled and the bar is prepped with a barista. The hibachi chefs start cooking the meals in their little set up and we locate ourselves in different locations. I take my position by the window. I look down the window and look at all the paparazzi and limousines line up as guest make their way upstairs. I spot a lot of celebrities from major movies to viral songs exiting. Once the penthouse door opens a influx of guest come in and the night is in full swing. I walk around serving drinks as conversations about renovated private jets and multimillion dollar house projects pop up here and there. I maintain my upright posture as I serve drinks so my shirt doesn’t shoot a button into someone’s poor multiquadrillion dollar eye.
“Thank you”
I nod okay and start to sit up
“by the way I never seen many latina servers around”
the Bald big belled man licks his lips at me
“Have a nice day”
I hide my disgust and begin walking away when I feel his hand wrap around my wrist
“ I ain’t done missy”
My nose flares up as I gently but forceful try to pull my wrist from his grip
“please let go sir”
he pulls me closer to him and I clench my hand tight as I am one step from losing it all and punching this globe.
“she said let go”
I see another hand grip his and yank it from my wrist. I look to my side to see Ryder staring him down as he pushes the man’s hand onto the table
“sorry mister Ryder I must be drunk. Nice party”
The man goes back to drinking and i try to calm myself down as my hand shakes a bit
“Hey-“
I ignore Ryder and walk away. I can’t talk I must work. I grab the tray full of champagne and walk around offering it to more people then repeat the cycle again. As the night moves on more and more people join which caused us to distribute drinks faster. At this point I was tired and I guessed Ryder can sense us being worn out because he said the party was officially over and the guest started to leave. I hatefully watch the bald man and his gold digger leave then start to clean up. My wrist aches in pain as his grip caused a nerve to be hit but I must clean these up. After we all clean up we say goodbye to each other and leave
“hey Sam”
james walks towards me and I hide my wrist
“what happen”
this time I go to speak but I am interrupted
“you come here”
ryder walks to the bedroom and I excuse myself and follow him. Once I enter the bedroom I see him sitting on the bed with a lotion in his hand
“sit”
I sit down quickly and I feel his rough calloused hand gently grab my wrist and with his other he rubs lotion around it
“is that ointment”
he nods yes and we sit in silence as he rubs my wrist. I watch as he applies the ointment again and I can see his Curly hair tucked behind his ear.
“why are you doing this for me”
he closes the ointment jar shut and sits up
“you have been with me for a few years. If any of my staff stay with me for that long then they are due respect”
he walks away and I feel myself smile as I get up and walk back to james.
“did he make you do-“
“No-“
I feel my cheeks flush in embarrassment as I place my jacket on and walk with James to the elevator
“it’s crazy how I have been in here for three years yet never made a effort to remember his name”
we enter the elevator and I look at my wrist covered in lavender smelling ointment. He didn’t have to yet he did . I find myself smiling again
”he’s always been a mysterious type so I can’t really blame you for not remembering his name”
we exit the elevator and soon the building
“Hey Sam I wanted to ask you something”
I nod okay and I see James rub the back of his neck as he looks around
“are you nervous”
james laughs quickly
“is it obvious”
I nod yes
“I am because I usually do not take initiative in things like this but I wanted to know if you wanted to have dinner with me tomorrow”
My eyes widen as the words dinner with me sink in
“so like a date”
I can see the heat pour from James ears as he tries to utter out a sentence
“well Um I guess if you want it to you know be like that”
I laugh and nod okay
“sure James I would love to have a after work diner date with you”
I see James smile as he waves me goodbye and skips away. I smile and turn around and walk to the train station on this cold December night. If Ryder places ointment in women's wrist then I can see how someone like that woman Moronica keeps coming back. I make my way home as I prepare for day two of the crazy party ahead
