Elaine had to remind herself to breathe as she sat rooted outside the office of the infamous businessman and playboy Zack Hendrix. For the tenth time that morning she wondered why of all the places she had ended up deciding to look for a job here. It wasn't that she was afraid of the man, that is if he even qualified to be listed as one. Far from that she feared nothing or no one, she was just angry because of the man's reputation when it came to business and the women in his life who came and went like the four seasons.
His kind made her sick, what made him think he could just treat women like mare objects? If she got this job she would definitely make it her business to show him that he couldn't bend everyone to do his bidding, most especially her. She may not look like the hottest models of the world but she would stand her ground with him.
For the uncountable time that morning, another lady who had walked in for the interview of the position of PA to Zack Hendrix walked out or rather ran out of his office with tears running down her face. What was he saying to them to make him shatter like this? She knew he had a reputation of being cold and heartless but this was beyond her understanding. Despite the unfolding events of that morning, Elaine refused to be shaken. After all she only needed the job for at least 6 months, that is if she got it.
'Ms Elaine Fonseca, it's your turn, Mr Hendrix can now see you. " came the voice of the receptionist who looked just as terrified as the previous applicants.
Gathering her portfolio and CV, Elaine walked to the massive tinted double glass doors and nocked softly. There was no response from inside but she still decided to show herself in. A habit that had stayed with her for years, the same habit that had cost her her wedding.
Pushing that nasty memory aside, she walked into the prestine office and stood transfixed after shutting the door. This place was magnificent. From glorious windows overlooking the busy city Athens, to the vibrant black mahogany office desk sitting near it, to the elegant white walls, to the luxurious leather carpet aligning the floors, everything in here was perfection, except the man who now sat behind the desk watching her with disdain in his grey orbs. Oops.
Elained barely had any time to compose herself and study the male specimen keenly before a low rambling sound had her at attention.
"Get out, nock on the door and wait for me to order you to come in." The voice was deep and calm but Elaine could read the threatening annoyance and anger in it.
With every ounce of dignity she could gather, she turned around and walked out of the office praying with all her heart not to snap at the arrogant jerk that was Zack Hendrix.
' bastard ' she whispered to herself before banging the door behind her.
She walked back to where she sat earlier and took out her phone, for the next half an hour she sat there watching TikTok videos. She did it intentionally with the hope of riling him up a little. When she was satisfied with the amount of time she had wasted, she stood up and walked back to the door. This time she waited for his reply before walking in.
Elaine could read the furry in his eyes and the anger in his face the moment she stepped into his office which now felt very cold for some odd reason. Zack Hendrix was doing everything within his power to reign on his feelings she could tell and she loved it.
His murdering glare stayed on her until she was standing right in front of his humongous desk. Instinctively she sat down and placed her bag on the floor before laying her documents on the table.
"I don't remember telling you to sit down."
" Of course you don't, I did it anyways. Now calm down and let's get over with this interview which by the way I don't expect to pass."
He only sat there looking at her like she was some sort of alien from space. Elaine could bet on her life that this man had never been talked back at before. The shear thought of it made her heart race with joy.
They sat staring straight at each other for what felt like eternity before Zack Hendrix finally told her to pass him her file which she did without moving an inch while maintaining the same level of eye contact from before.
While he went through her files, she took the opportunity to analyze him and let's say she was impressed, it was no secret the man was a dream, a Greek god they said. Plus he was actually Greek. The chiseled jaw, the defined cheekbones, the long curled lashes, the curved eyebrows, the olive tanned skin, the protuding muscles from his unbuttoned shirt, the.....
"When you're done drooling please answer the question."
Elaine felt a flash ran up her face , this was the worst day of her life. The man had caught her staring and she didn't know what to do with herself at this very moment .
"I wasn't drooling, there definitely nothing drool worthy about you. As for the question I'd be pleased if you repeated it. Thank you."
She could immediately tell that it was taking all the self restraint from him to stay composed. He wanted to explode but he was doing everything to not give her that pleasure.
The rest of the interview ran tensely and Elaine left with no intention of coming back. She might not have gotten the job but boy was she glad she had met and blatantly defied one of the most feared men in the world. Her best friend Lauren would definitely die for this kind of tea.
