The roar of spells being fired rapidly can be heard from anywhere on the planet. The rumble and ear-rupturing sound would shake even the most fearsome sorcerers to their core. The scene was absolutely horrid. Houses destroyed, paths were painted with a sticky substance as the concrete itself was heated to the point of melting. The once lively planet was in a state of distress. Anguish, despair, and hopelessness would fill the air as this was the worst catastrophe the populace had ever seen.
“Hang in there guys, just a little longer and we’ll be safe!” A man said unsurely, comforting a small group of kids. This man had cared for these kids for years and years, almost like an orphanage. Provided food, shelter, and other necessities that their parents sadly could not provide any longer. These kids were ultimately struck by logos and accidentally absorbed the attacks mana. It was so potent even the ethos were worried they were going to betray them. Recently, these kids were named the “Golden Children” and the religion of ethos believed they were struck by gods will.
The ethos were doing their absolute best to defend our populace and the children with their best and highest class sorcerers. It still wasn't enough, the enemy, logos, was too powerful. The only way to defeat them is to seal them. It took 6 days to muster the mana to seal such a great enemy, but ultimately failed due to the inability to maintain it.
This war went on for nearly 2 years until almost 70% of humanity had been wiped from the face of the earth.
“Thats it for class.” Ms. Hori said. I begin to exit the history classroom bewildered at the amount of speaking she had done today. It was even more than yesterday, and that’s a feat. Finally, it was time for the practical sorcery class. This is my favorite class as it actually involves concepts I can use regularly. Still, I don't think this dusty, janky, and decrepit training space the gamma class has is the best. I was nowhere near weak, I was placed in this ranking due to the non-existent readings when I was born. The only reading I received was that I was gifted.
“Hello, Kota.” Our training instructor said, as I entered five minutes late.
“Hey, teach.” I then sat down with my spell book and began reading.
“Please turn your pages to XI.II” Everyone turned their pages including me, and we began skimming through the spell synopsis. Everyone started whispering among themselves as if something was wrong with the spell.
“Sir, isn't this too hard for us? This is a tier III spell...” A student said.
“No, don't worry. You all are capable of mastering this spell. If not, how are we going to fair in the practical ranking test coming up?” The class sighed and the instructor began his lesson.
“Now, as you know, there are 4 parts to a incantation, each with their own use in the output spell. These parts are able to be modified to fit the need of the caster. So, today, we will be mastering this spell, and modifying its various properties.”
“Begin by saying the first incantation segment out loud.” The class began speaking the incantation whilst the instructor sat and observed. All of the students had been doing it correctly including me, creating blue flames on their hands. The instructor smiled, then continued the lesson.
“Good, it seems you all are as good as I expect. Now, the last 3 parts are all numbers. They signify the properties of the spell. Potency, Magnitude, and a special property unique to the spell. Try reading the first part, then the last three written on the spellbook. Please face the ceiling.”
Everyone began incanting away, creating blue flames and one even got a projectile to fly out. Eventually, they all got it down.
“Modifying a spell is as simple as changing the numbers you say. Give it a try.” The class began incanting with different configurations creating weird and wacky distorted spells. The instructor began laughing and said, “You all are ready now. As for your homework, please master 10 spells before next week.”
The class packed up and left. Luckily, that is the last class before the day ends. I begin walking through the hallway and I notice everyone left already.
Thats peculiar...
I chalked it up to a party and began my nightly walk.
“So you came... wonderful.” A mysterious voice says from a bush near the path.
“Yes, I did. Now where's the ethos treasury?” Another voice replied.
“Heh... so naive.” A faint stab could be heard and rapid footsteps were heard seconds after as if they were fleeing the scene.
I ran over to the scene, greeted by a student of this academy, dead. He was stabbed by some sort of spike, likely high class sorcery because of how dense it was.
“Oh, this isn't good.” Seconds after I spoke, a group of people in white and gold cloaks using concealment sorcery attempted to ambush me.
“πυρκαγιά, VIII, IIII, C” I spoke a incantation, which created a incredibly long whip of fire that wrapped around the ambushers and slammed them into the concrete path. They gather their footing midair and land perfectly, ready to counter-attack. As they landed I casted another spell, “δόρυ της αιωνιότητας, X, X, X”, which threw a spear of condensed mana toward the enemy. It landed, and on impact exploded. The enemies were injured but still alive. Confused as to how they got injured by a mere student, they retreated.
“What the hell was that?” I muttered, wondering what they were doing that was so confidential they were willing to kill a student over them overhearing it.
