Naomi ran as fast as her legs could carry her, tears clouding her vision her heart in her throat. Sweat beads rolled down her face.
Now she knew what people meant when they said "run for your life" for that was exactly what she was doing. "You idiot would you stop running" one of the men yelled.
'Are you kidding me?' she thought to herself. If she wasn't in a life or death situation, she would have definitely burst into laughter. His idiotic command gave her the zeal to run faster. She ran and ran and ran. Never looking back for the fear of breaking momentum.
Exhaustion started creeping in and her legs started giving up.
She was aware that she couldn't outrun these men for they obviously had lots of practice chasing woman so she decided to outsmart them, she knew this town like the back of her hand however as she tried looking around at her surroundings, everything looked the same. Trees were everywhere : different shapes and sizes, tall and wide. The height of the trees were indespicable, it was as if they were giving the skies a high-five.
Naomi took the risk and stopped running. She turned around and all she saw were more trees, she wondered how she had ended up here without realizing it. She didn't even know where she was, but she accustomed a sense of relief when she saw that there were no men in sight. At least that's what she thought.
Maybe they had stopped following her because this was some evil forest where some witch had died. It could be a possibility for the creeping sounds that she heard were peculiar and unnatural.
Was it an owl or a squirrel?
She had no clue but whatever it was she refused to allow her imagination scare her. It was getting dark and Naomi found it hard to see through the thickness of the trees. She contemplated going back the way she came but she didn't know where that was, everything looked the same, she didn't even know which way she had come and plus who knew whether those men were waiting for her out there.
A strong wind blew across the earth, rustling the leaves of the trees. Her ears twitches as they picked up unusual sounds, it sounded like the melodious tune of a mother singing a lullaby to her restless child the sound was slow and sensual. In better circumstances the tune would have soothed her heartaches, comforted and relaxed her but I'm her current predicament she feared the melody.
It felt like a trap, to let her let down her guard, lulling her to a long slumber which she would not be allowed to wake from.
The sound kept resonating through the air, brushing through the leaves and becoming one with the wind, but Naomi refused to succumb to the soothing melody and suddenly it stopped.
She gulped,her heart beating rapidly as she shifted and looked around. She saw nothing but darkness. An uneasy feeling built it's way in her stomach rising up to begin clawing at her throat.
She felt as if something out there was watching-

staring at her.
Waiting to leap out and attack.
She could feel eyes burning through her. Something was out there. Or it could be someone.
Suddenly a twig snapped and she screamed. Instict kicking in as she ran for her life. She had no clue why she was running or who she was running from or where in heavens name she was running to but all she knew was that she was running and that was good enough for her.
She found herself on a road, hope, sprang up in her. Maybe a car would pass by and she'll tell them her story at least with some modifications. She turned around and looked back at the trees and she shivered at its sight at least now she was out of there, far away from whoever was in it.
She looked around at her surroundings and realized that the road was deserted and it didn't seem like many cars drove pass .
Slowly her hope faded.
Nonetheless she refused to give up, even though she had no clue where she was, she wouldn't give up. She clung to herself, as she shivered in the cold, she regretted not bringing a jacket but regret would bring her nowhere but deeper into the depths of despair.
Naomi wanted to cry out to the skies for she did not know what she had done to deserve this. She deserved to be wrapped up in her blanket care-free about the cruel world as she wandered in the magical world of dreams. The cold cement floors that she slept on every night didn't seem that bad anymore. She would choose a sore back over this anytime of the day.
She walked aimlessly, her eyes moving around frantically on the look out for any danger. She tried controlling her breathing, as she told herself that everything would be okay and that she'll end up back home in no time, but even her own heart doubted her words.
She walked aimlessly for what felt like hours and she started felling paranoid every shadow, every sound, every movement felt like a threat.
The tears forced themselves out of her sockets but she rubbed angrily on her eyes forcing them back in their place. Tears wouldn't help her now.
If her brother, Chris was here this would never had happened. James would have thought twice before treating her the way he did, he wouldn't have dared raise his voice at her for the fear of angering Chris. Even her parents wouldn't have treated her this way, and she probably wouldn't have been thrown out of the house, causing her encounter with those men which led her to where she was now. Chris was her shield he protected and comforted her and he was always there for her.
At Helspin, woman were seen as nothing especially single ones. It was said that the value of a woman was only known after she was married and given birth to children (specifically male children).
Those who were barren were mocked and insulted even if it happened to be the fault of the man for their childlessness due to his infertility, the man's flaws would not be seen only the woman will be blamed.

Naomi was just a mere woman, that's why after Chris had left. Her parents had a great resentment towards her, questioning why Naomi couldn't just be a male.
Naomi did not understand this concept for without woman how would children be born. Woman brought the world together, they made the world go round. She felt -no- she knew woman were as important as men and maybe even better.
Naomi caught a movement in the corner of her eye and she started feeling nauseous, her pace quickened in fear of what could be hiding in the shadows.

Footsteps. And they were getting closer, she got ready to run, but was too slow. Suddenly a hand held onto her arm, their grip tight and unforgiving. She turned around and saw a dirty blonde guy with lifeless eyes and a devious smirk holding onto her wrist. "Oh baby. You took so much energy out of me, I had to run around the whole world for you darling. That's not fair." Her eyes widened,the alcoholic stench invading her nose causing it to sting painfully.

Naomi attempted to snake him off of her however he was too strong. She stepped on his feet and he groaned in pain, loosing his hold on her she made a run for it however she collapsed to the floor,scraping her knees as her ankle was pulled back violently her leg scraped against the concrete road. On the ground, she turned around attempting to kick the idiot in the nose, but she froze. Her eyes landing on a gang of men - the same gang of men that chased her. They stared down at her with famished eyes, as they shared knowing looks, Naomi gulped in fear.
