The start of my internship marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life. Three months of hands-on experience, and a chance to finally apply what I had learned in the classroom. But as excited as I was to dive into the professional world, the thought of being away from home for such a long time filled me with a sense of uncertainty. I had never been away from my family for so long, and the thought of managing everything on my own was daunting.
But then, my dear friend offered me a solution that turned out to be a lifeline. She invited me to stay at her house for the duration of my internship, and little did I know, this gesture would mean more to me than I could have imagined. Her family took me in as one of their own. Her parents welcomed me with open arms, treating me like a daughter—feeding me, making sure I was comfortable, and offering guidance whenever I needed it. Their kindness and warmth gave me the sense of security I needed to thrive during my internship. It was as though I was still surrounded by family, even though I was physically far from them.
Living with them was an experience I will never forget. Every day, I felt cared for and supported, and in return, I found myself able to focus on my internship without the overwhelming worry about being far from home. Their presence helped me navigate through the challenges of the internship with a sense of calm and comfort. The laughter we shared, the conversations, and the love that filled their home made the months feel much shorter than they actually were.
As my internship came to an end, the day of graduation arrived. It felt like the culmination of everything I had worked so hard for, but it was also a bittersweet moment. While I was proud of what I had achieved, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of saying goodbye to this chapter of my life. My friends and the memories we had created together in the years prior flashed through my mind. I had made it through the challenges, but now it was time to step into a new world—one where I would have to carry those lessons and experiences with me.
Graduation wasn’t just about the ceremony—it was about reflecting on the journey, the people who helped me along the way, and the moments that shaped me. It was a moment of closure, but also the beginning of something new. And although my friend and her family were not physically there at the ceremony, I carried their love and support with me, knowing that they were part of the reason I had been able to navigate this journey.
Looking back, I realize that the internship and graduation were more than just milestones in my academic career—they were moments that reminded me of the importance of the people we surround ourselves with. My friend's family became my second family, and they helped me through one of the most important transitions in my life. I will never forget their kindness, their care, and how they helped me make it through those three months away from home.
