Melody
Is Oceana asleep yet? I have work to do. When I hear her breathing even out, I slip into the hallway and stalk into her parent’s room. The good thing about being ambidextrous is I can wield two knifes with the same level of precision. I crouch over her parents, a blade in each hand. They wake up the second they feel the cold blade against their throats. I watch as I slide it across their necks, watch as their emotions circle through. I see betrayal, pain, hurt, worry, and finally nothing. The only reason they died was because I’d dipped the blades in holy water. Their emotions are enough to last me for eight months. It was the best feast I’d had in a while. If you can’t tell, I’m not human. I’m a wraith. I’ve been around for four hundred years, and I’ve been a mercenary for three hundred and fifty years. I wipe the blood off of my blades and hide them carefully. Then I climbed back into bed with Oceana.
Oceana
I dreamed about blood. I dreamed about fire. I dreamed about knives. I dreamed about screams. I dreamed about Melody not being who I think she is. I wake up with a gasp and look around wildly, I finally calm down when I see Melody next to me, dreaming peacefully, her breathing deep and calm. I let out a sigh of relief and gently climb out of bed. I couldn’t feel the connection between me and my parents. I hurry down the hall and into their bedroom. I cry out in grief, pain, and loss, when I see them holding each other blood staining their necks and chests. Their blood staining the sheets and blankets. When the tears finally dried I was empty. Nothing existed besides the numbness, every emotion I could ever have disappeared, like they never existed. That night I let Melody sleep as I buried my parents. They always said they wanted to be buried under the waterfall in the woods behind our house. I carried them to the waterfall and dug a grave six feet deep. When I placed them in it, I made it so that they were holding each other. When I finally crept back into the house at the first crack of dawn, Melody was on the couch. I ignored her questions about where I was, and went to my parents bedroom and gathered the sheets and burned them. I then laid in their bed and grabbed one of there spare blankets, and fell into a dreamless and restless sleep.
