Faded.

She was the backup friend.

The one they invited if someone couldn’t go.

The quiet one.

The antisocial one.

She was the girl everyone forgot about.

She’s the one who always turns her work in on time.

Never talks over others.

But she’s not just the quiet kid who’s easily forgotten,

The kid the teachers love because she does her work and gets good grades.

The one who’s always on time never talking over them.

The kid who fades into the background until no one realizes that she’s gone.

I’m more than that kid.

I’m a writer.

I’m a sculptor.

I’m a soccer player.

I’m a swimmer.

I’m a track runner.

But nobody notices it.

Nobody notices me.

Nobody realizes that I’m slowly fading into the background.

Already mostly faded.
