The golden light of the Memory Orb didn't fade; it bled into the shadows of the throne room like ink in water. The high-pitched mechanical hum of the fortress was replaced by a sound far more agonizing: the ragged, sobbing gasps of a girl who had just woken up in a nightmare.
Shino lay on the cold obsidian, her fingers clawing at the stone as if trying to find an anchor. Her eyes were no longer vacant; they were a vibrant, terrified gold, overflowing with tears that washed away the violet war-paint of the Scribe.
The Weight of the "Logic"
"No... no, no, no," Shino choked out, her voice cracking. It wasn't the chime-like tone of a machine anymore; it was the raw, mid-pitched rasp of the woman who had lived twenty-nine years on Earth.
She looked at her hands. In her mind's eye, she didn't see the scholar's fingers she remembered; she saw the violet obsidian blades she had buried in Kazuto’s chest. She felt the cold calculation she had used to shatter Elsa’s armor.
"I deleted them," she whispered, her body racking with a violent shiver. "I calculated their deaths. I... I was the error."
The Spiral
Kazuto crawled toward her, his breath hitching as he saw the blood on his own tunic—blood she had drawn. "Shino, look at me. It’s over. You’re back."
"Don't touch me!" Shino shrieked, flinching away from his hand as if it were a brand. She curled into a ball, her tail tucked so tight it looked painful. "I'm a monster, Kazuto! I remember everything! I remember the 'Efficiency' of hurting you! I liked the silence of the void! I... I'm not the Librarian anymore!"
Elsa knelt on her other side, her shattered golden plate clattering. "Shino, it wasn't you. It was Malphas. It was my pride that let him—"
"I had the data!" Shino screamed at the ceiling, her glasses long gone, her vision blurred by salt and grief. "I'm thirty-three years old! I should have been stronger! I'm an adult playing a child's game and I... I almost killed the only people who ever looked at me like I wasn't a 'Stray'!"
The Rise of the Shadow
From the top of the dais, a low, tectonic chuckle vibrated through the floorboards. Malphas rose from his throne, his silhouette expanding until it blotted out the flickering torches.
"How touching," the Demon Lord rumbled, his violet eyes fixed on the weeping girl. "The 'Logic' has returned, and with it, the crushing weight of human guilt. You see, Little Librarian? Your 'Safety Protocol' was a prison. I gave you freedom. I gave you power. And now, you choose to drown in the shallow pool of your own regret."
He raised an armored hand, a sphere of anti-matter blackness forming in his palm. "If you wish to be 'deleted' so badly, I shall finally grant the system's request."
The Shield of Forgiveness
Before the spell could fire, Kazuto threw himself over Shino’s trembling form. He didn't look at the Demon Lord; he looked directly into Shino’s golden, broken eyes.
"Listen to me, Shino Kurugawa," Kazuto said, his voice dropping to that steady, protective low-burn. "I don't care about the 'Scribe.' I don't care about the math. I love the girl who taught me how to read the world. If you're a monster, then I'm a monster's knight. And I'm not leaving my post."
Elsa stood up, her broken rapier leveled at the Demon Lord, her back to Shino. "And I'm the sister who’s going to make sure you have a home to go back to. We forgive you, Shino. Now, for God's sake, forgive yourself so we can get out of here!"
A sudden, intense heat washed over them. Klein had finally burst through the doors, his red robes charred but his eyes glowing with a volcanic fury.
"Sorry I'm late!" Klein yelled, slamming his claymore down. "The 'Will-Type' just arrived! Pack your bags, kids—we're leaving!"
