I stare into my mirror.

Dissecting the girl

For a hollow echo

Of the person she once was.

But the glass stays cold and silent;

A sterile cage

For the girl who vanished,

The one who deserted me,

When I needed her most.

Is not the same eccentric girl…

She is scarred and broken

Hollowed out by life

discarded, so no one sees,

The stranger who cries herself to sleep.

Broken by the world she once loved

Now cursed to haunt my glass

Only to take her place in the frame

I look out from the other side

And see a stranger staring back once more

Her hair is graying

Her eyes swollen shut

But she is undoubtedly me

So I wait for the next hand to reach in

Love is a treat I can't afford

Perfection is the goal I'll never reach

Mama is the person I'm supposed to be

Attention is something I strive for
