Things I Never Said

Dad,

I always thought there would be more time.

More time to sit beside you.

More time to tell you about my day.

More time to say thank you.

When I was little, I thought you were invincible. You carried groceries with one hand, fixed broken things, and somehow always knew how to make everything okay.

I never noticed how tired you were.

I never noticed the sacrifices.

I never noticed the dreams you gave up so I could chase mine.

And now there are so many things I wish I had said.

Thank you for every silent sacrifice.

Thank you for every sleepless night.

Thank you for believing in me when I didn't believe in myself.

If I could talk to you one more time, I wouldn't ask for advice.

I wouldn't ask for money.

I wouldn't ask for anything.

I would simply say:

"I love you, Dad."

A sentence so small.

A sentence I thought I had forever to say.

If somehow you can hear me now, I hope you know that every achievement I earn carries a piece of you with it.

And although you're gone, your voice still guides me.

I miss you.

More than words will ever be able to explain.
