The first day I entered Class 9, everyone warned me about one teacher.
Mr. Arjun.
He was our history teacher.
The strange thing was that nobody knew much about him. He rarely spoke about his life, never attended school events, and always disappeared the moment the final bell rang.
Yet every student respected him.
One rainy Monday, Mr. Arjun entered the classroom carrying an old wooden box.
He placed it on the table and said,
"History is not about dates. It is about people who leave pieces of themselves behind."
Then he began teaching as usual.
But during the lesson, I noticed something odd.
Whenever he opened the box, he looked sad.
Very sad.
Curiosity grew inside me.
A week later, after school, I stayed behind and secretly followed him.
Instead of going home, he walked to the oldest building on campus—a locked section nobody used anymore.
I watched from behind a tree.
Mr. Arjun unlocked the door and entered.
The next day I told my friends.
Together, we decided to investigate.
After school, we sneaked into the abandoned building.
Dust covered the floor.
Broken desks lay scattered everywhere.
Then we found a classroom.
Inside hung a faded photograph.
My heart stopped.
The man in the picture was Mr. Arjun.
But the photograph was nearly twenty years old.
Below it was a plaque:
"In memory of Arjun Sharma, beloved teacher, who lost his life while saving students during the school fire of 2006."
My hands trembled.
Lost his life?
That was impossible.
He was teaching us every day.
Suddenly we heard footsteps behind us.
We turned.
Mr. Arjun stood in the doorway.
His face was calm.
"I wondered when someone would find this place," he said.
The room grew cold.
The lights flickered.
Then he smiled sadly.
"I loved this school too much to leave."
Before we could speak, a strong wind swept through the room.
The photograph fell.
When we looked up again, Mr. Arjun was gone.
Only the wooden box remained.
Inside were hundreds of letters.
Letters from former students thanking him for changing their lives.
The next morning, a new teacher entered our classroom.
When we asked about Mr. Arjun, she looked confused.
"There has never been a teacher by that name here," she said.
The entire class fell silent.
To this day, the abandoned classroom remains locked.
But sometimes, during heavy rain, students claim they hear a familiar voice teaching history lessons from behind the old door.
And on the teacher's desk, fresh chalk writing appears every Monday morning:
"History never dies."
