"...Alex?"

My voice came out barely above a whisper.

He smiled.

A soft, relieved smile.

"You're finally awake."

I blinked a couple of times, trying to process what I was seeing.

"Wait..."

"What are you doing here?"

He looked at me for a second before letting out a small laugh.

"I could ask you the same."

Before I could question him any further, he nodded toward the bathroom.

"Go freshen up."

"I made something light for you."

I stared at him.

He... cooked?

My stomach answered before I could.

It growled.

Loudly.

"...Okay."

I decided not to ask any more questions.

Maybe because I was too hungry.

Or maybe because, for the first time in days...

I didn't mind simply following someone's lead.

As the warm water ran over me, fragments of yesterday slowly came back.

The doorbell.

Alex.

The hug.

...

And then...

Nothing.

I don't even remember falling asleep.

...

Oh no.

I must've looked absolutely horrible.

I'd been lying in bed for days.

My hair was probably a mess.

My eyes were swollen from crying.

Man...

That's so embarrassing.

After changing into fresh clothes, I walked out of the bathroom.

Alex was already waiting at the dining table.

Breakfast was neatly laid out.

Every single dish...

Was something I liked.

I stopped walking.

"...How?"

Before I knew it, my eyes had started filling with tears again.

Alex noticed immediately.

He stood up and walked over.

"Hey..."

"Are you okay?"

I quickly looked away, trying to stop myself from crying again.

He thought for a moment before asking,

"...Do you want some ice cream?"

I looked back at him.

Then nodded.

A few minutes later, he placed a tub of ice cream and a spoon in front of me.

As I quietly ate, the knot in my chest slowly began to loosen.

For the first time in what felt like forever...

I felt...

A little lighter.
