”Darling,” he began softly. I carried on crying, remembering that I wouldn’t see him for a year as I knew that the war was going to be that long. But he would definitely come back to me, definitely, he was a fighter and always had been.
”My darling Cindy,” he resumed, staring at the floor as it was paining him to say goodbye aswell. “How I shall miss you while I’m gone”
He looked up at me again, his eyes filling with tears as he caressed my cheek.
“I shall miss you too, Christopher. No matter how much I deny it, you have definitely made me fall for you.” I smiled to him fakely as I was very much pained by this god-awful time. “Can I give you one request though?” I asked as my tears began to stain my dress.
”Anything for you, mi amour” he whispered.
”We are young and restless, especially at these horrible times. You are 21 and I am only 18. So I am asking you, please can you stay faithful to me? Please can you not-”
Christopher placed a finger on my lip.
”I would never, my darling Cindy. You are my everything, I shall think about you every day.” He responded quietly.
“Thank you, Christopher.” I whispered and gave him a small peck on the lips.
Then I watched - with tears flooding down onto my skirt - Christopher walk away from our house and off to the war.
