He held his hand out to you. "Dance with me?" he asked.
You looked at him. You were lucid dreaming, you knew it, but you couldn't quite understand why he'd want to dance with you. "Why?"
He smiled. "You're beautiful. And I'd like a dance."
You blushed and took his hand, allowing him to pull you to the dance floor of the club that faded away as you followed him. The floor turned into what felt like space, nothing around you or under you except each other. He pulled you close and your favorite song came on. The two of you started a lopsided sort of waltz. "James..." you said. "You're dead."
James smiled sadly. "Yes. But I want one last dance before I go."
The two of you danced and you could feel James' body heat radiate into your body, keeping you warm despite the chill you could feel in the air. "I loved you James. I still do. Why did you have to go?"
James tilted his head. "I was no good for you. I was no good for anyone. It was high time I left this world, and went to the next."
You blinked back stinging tears. "That's not true, you idiot. I loved you, and you were perfect for me."
James' head started to bleed. You sobbed. "You didn't have to kill yourself, dummy!"
"I'm sorry," James blinked back tears. "There was no other way. But...will you do one thing for me?"
You nodded.
"Remember me."
You blinked, opening your eyes, and sat up. As you pulled the blankets back over your head and went back to sleep, you swore you could hear his voice whispering, Remember me...
