Don't know how it is with people out there, but when I'm at peace, I'm filled with contentment, lost all my worries of the day, relish the moment and feel new energy flowing through my body and soul.
Let me show you where I feel at peace and describe the moment as best as I can ...
One of many places is when writing a story with entertaining characters and plots. Cackle giddily along with my villains while feeling the painful sting and standing proudly to my protagonists' moral. Or letting my heart race at the moment when two people have found each other and smirk on the whole story as it unfolds before your eyes as a reader and writer—forgetting everything in my world and dive into a magical one or multiverse that is filled with untouched nature and wild magic—creating magical creatures, objects, empires, people with remarkable background stories and all to my design and liking—writing moments of surprises that I didn't see it coming nor have ever experienced or feel out emotions to understand and live. Letting my wild mind and heart go in my wild world after being caged on a tame planet after a long day. Setting myself free with a set of words that describe but a window of my world...
Another place is being surrounded by nature. I feel most at peace when walking through a thick forest; surrounded by trees and their inhabitants, hear birds singing while watching quietly from afar how squirrels scurry from trunk to trunk—taking in the smell of sweet nectar, fresh earth and crisp coolness of the trees. Or stroll along the shore with sand between your toes, smelling the brine and wind blowing through your hair. At best, submerge to the water and snorkel for shells and unique stones with the sun on your back or ride with the wind by windsurfing. In nature, I lose track of time and let myself dazzle with its wonders in simplicity and complexity. Learning something new and reminds me of things that I have nearly forgotten and spot unique beauty that others dismiss so quickly at times. The shimmering feather of a magpie, change of colours in leaves and plants, the song of a starling, how a tiny insect is just as significant as any other animal or plant visible. I also feel at peace with my friends and family, especially in moments of laughter and full-filling each other's dreams and wishes. Sharing smiles, crack jokes or smirk secretly to one another insider jokes while other people are clueless. Laugh so hard till your stomach aches; legs give away, tears run from your eyes, and you nearly wet your pants. Other moments can be travelling together to foreign cities and countries. Everyone sees it differently and yet sharing a similar mind to follow and understand in good and hard times. There are no eyes that judge me, everyone accepts my natural self, and I accept their nature. I even love their flaws despite the eye-rolling, but that is a sign of caring. Being quirky, strange, different and against the mainstream is, for me, a comfort because so am I. Being creative and expressive in various ways and living one's passion. We craft, we write, we watch movies, we ponder, we dance, we cook, we act out on stage, we discuss or simply just taking and listening together whenever there's a chance. With one friend, I have a deep connection that we finish each other's sentences at times and teased again and again that if she or I were the opposite gender, we would have married. Yes, it's that sort of quirkiness I'm talking about. Or calling after father from another room, and he only hums agreeable to your word, but when asking face to face, he'll note he didn't hear me. Or my mother talks about one thing, but my father understood the other way around. At the same time, I smirk broadly, seeing both perspectives clear as crystal and how the confusion started. And lastly, with music and dance, I can find my peace nearly everywhere. Still, the best place would be in a studio or a pub, dance to Irish music or shanties with a pint of Guinness or ale, of course. Ever since I can remember, I have felt connected to Irish music and Irish dance. When dancing with the proper choreography and music, I'm so overjoyed that I can soar to the ceiling. Forgetting all my worries and seize the moment with full gusto. Letting the melody and rhythm pore into my fibres, urging me to dance and express the emotions that stir to this moment. Once a dancer, always a dancer, I guess. Who knows, maybe with a bit of liquid courage, I may also be able to sing without the dogs howling outside. But one thing is for sure and I bet you have noticed how important music is to me in life.
