Woken up to the sound of a loud bang coming from outside, Lucas looks around his room sleepily. It was still dark outside, but someone was out there in the foggy woods. He stared out the window trying to get a better look though couldn’t quite make out their features.
Then, BANG! Another ear piercing noise came from in the woods that’s when he realized what it was. It was a tree falling, multiple tress started collapsing soon after and he could see the figure starting to run away. As the figure ran he could see another one running after them. He watched as they ran deeper into the forest then one pulled out a long sword and cut down the other figure running away, but only watched as there was nothing he could do. Things like this happened often because of the war between the humans and hybrids. That is why his older sister moved out to the the middle of the forest when he was little. He didn’t remember living in the city nor did he care to go there, their small 2 bedroom cabin in the woods was all the awkward little boy knew.
He soon closed the curtains went back to sleep but woken up again this time by the bright sun light flowing through the now open window curtains and soothing voice of his older sister. “Lucas” she said. “It is time to get up I made breakfast your favorite.” His eye lit up “rice and plantains.”

He sat down to his steamy plate and started to eat. “So” his sister said out of nowhere. Lucas looked up from his plate at his sister. “I want you to go to school in the city instead of being home schooled starting today.” she started nervously then more firm as she went on. “I think it is time that you get proper schooling. It will also give you a chance to be around other kids your age.” “I am not going to school. Why can’t you continue to homeschool me I don’t want to be around other kids it’s so pointless!!!” Alandra started to respond but he got up and stormed to his room with his unfinished plate.

The walk to the nearest village was tense and silent. Alandra knew what Lucas’ reaction to going to school would be. She also knew how the other kids and teachers would treat him for not coming from a wealthy family. She experienced other kids being bullied when she was in school. People could be cruel but she wanted him to be able to take care of himself. This would include communicating with others and dealing with the way society would treat him in the future. He hated other people even if he was barely around them. He saw the world as evil. He hated how people shamelessly killed each other. He hated how it was normal to shun people for things they couldn’t control. Lucas especially hated how fake people were part of this coming from his lacking ability to interpret others emotions. I going to hate this he thought as they rode on the back of the wagon they were borrowing from a merchant Alandra knew.
They had finally made it to the school. All the schools were in the second ring of the city. Lucas hopped off the cart and waved bye to his sister. He kept his head down as to not be noticed.
As he was observing the school and new his new classmates he noticed that most of them had lighter uniforms than him. He also noticed that the teachers and some of the parents dropping off there kids were staring him down. He wasn’t the only one there were others that the adults were glaring at.
When the bell rang everyone gathered into the auditorium for a welcoming ceremony where everyone got their schedules and there was a speech. After the ceremony Lucas started to look for his locker.
When he got there he saw a girl getting beat up in front of his locker. He walked over and quietly tried to push his way through. “What do you think your doing serf.” “I am not a serf” Lucas mumbled. “Huh speak up or can you just mumble like the idiot you are.” At that the bullies possy started laughing. Then the bully pushed him against the lockers knocking him down. Lucas got up tired of their abuse. Lucas knocked into him and said “you are going to be late you should get your books so you don’t get in trouble.” Annoyed the bully tried to punch him as he tried to open his locker. Although Lucas was able to dodge him and open his locker. As the bully screeched in pain from hitting his hand against the locker the bell rang and everyone ran to class.
Lucas’ first class was Language Arts. They spent the whole class doing introductions. The rest of the day went by quickly until the bully confronted him again while he was leaving the building.
This time he only had one other kid with him. The other kid had red hair and freckles. Lucas pushed past them like they weren’t there but was quickly grabbed by his collar. “Who do you think you are?” said the bully. Lucas then mumbled multiple very offensive insults and tried to leave again but was stopped again this time by the other boy who held him in place while the bully tried to punch him. Lucas dodged his attack again and the he red head kid was punched instead of him. The red head let out a scream which got the attention of the PE teacher Ms. Wilson and the kids parents.
The parents kneel down inspecting their sons bloodied face. While Ms. Wilson demanded to know what happened. “He punched me” the kid blurted out as he pointed at Lucas who was getting tired of them.
The teacher grabbed Lucas by his collar and dragged him to her classroom. “Who do you think you are brat?” Ms.Wilson yelled. You come here on your first day and your already causing trouble.
