"Good morning," Sebastian said.
I screamed, waking up suddenly.
He just chuckled. "Every time."
I stared, gasping.
I fell asleep again! What the hell was wrong with me?
The moment I realized the knife was on the table, I shot out to grab it...
But Sebastian looked down curiously and caught it, making me stiffen.
He stared at the knife for a moment, and I just sank further into the couch.
No... don't...
Something odd flashed through his eyes... confusion maybe? And he gazed back up at me, smirking suddenly.
But what was that... confusion...?
"This is dangerous," he told me, laughing. "Don't you know it's not a good idea to keep knives on tables? You can accidentally drop it, you know."
I stared as he got up and stepped back to the kitchen, and I noticed he was clutching the knife tightly—almost painfully.
And he slid it back into the block, gazing back over at me. "See? All better."
I just stared at him, breathing shallowly. "Get out."
He gave me a look. "This again?"
"I don't know how you keep getting in!" I told him. "You're freaking me out, so get out! Understand?"
His lips thinned.
"And stop coming in here!" I yelled to him. "Or that knife will no longer be in the block and instead in those pretty eyes of yours!"
He smirked despite my threat. "You think my eyes are pretty?"
"GET OUT!" I yelled.
He just kept the smile and nodding, opening the front door and closing it behind him seconds later.
I then ran over to the door and locked it behind him, making my way back over to the knife block and pulling my weapon back out.
God he was scaring me, but god...
Did he have... pretty eyes.
I just shook my head.
But a sudden shadow rushed at my right, and I quickly gazed up, throat constricting.
"Sebastian?" I said. "I thought I told you to get out."
But another shadow to my left, and I flipped around, finding nothing there.
What...?
And then another came from my right again, and I pulled the knife out, heart pounding hard against my chest.
"Sebastian!" I said. "Stop!"
It had to be him... this was the only logical explanation.
But all the sudden the lights went out, and I screamed, flipping around with my knife.
I thought I'd hear demonic sounds like in a horror movie... but I didn't.
In fact... I heard... nothing.
The silence was loud, deafening, and I couldn't bear it.
Another shadow rushed to my left, and I spun around, holding the knife out threateningly.
"Okay," I said, laughing nervously. "Very funny."
I then heard a glass shatter, and I cried out, spinning back to the kitchen.
But there was nothing there.
I started gasping. "This isn't funny!"
And suddenly the lights flipped on, and I gasped, looking around to find nothing here.
I then ran over to the kitchen—where I heard the glass shatter—and I circled around the counter to see one of mom's scotch glasses in scattered pieces on the floor.
So... it was real.
I suddenly held the knife out and looked around the house, searching for movement or sound, but there was none.
And when I looked back at the glass...
It was gone.
I froze, breathing shallowly.
What?
How?
Was I going insane?
Something was happening... Something...
And... I had a feeling... Sebastian had something to do with it.
Why else would he show? And then all this started happening?
It had to be him, right?
I breathed shallowly, continuing to search the house.
I didn't know what... but either he was fast and kept moving things... or he had some... mind magic.
Which seemed impossible.
It was impossible.
But now... I didn't think there were other answers.
Other than the fact that I was going insane.
I couldn't believe it. Sebastian was real, and all this started when he showed himself to me... so either I was going insane... or he was making me see these things.
But mind magic didn't exist.
Though maybe it could.
I stared off, still breathing shallowly.
The fact that I was even considering this proved that I was going insane.

"Skye..." Neveah whispered over the phone as I paced my home. "Do you even realize what time it is?"
"I know," I said, "and I'm sorry, but... please understand. Can I come over and spend a couple nights with you?"
She sighed through the other line. "Yeah, whatever."
I just caught my already-made bag. "Alright, I'm coming over right now. You can go to sleep, just keep the window open."
"Okay, Romeo," she said sarcastically. "And good night."
"Good night," I replied, hanging up.
I then glanced around the house for a moment before I ran to the front door, shoving it open and running out seconds later.
I didn't know what was happening, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to.
I just pulled my earbuds out from my purse and slipped them in my ears, gasping as they started blasting some high-beat music, and I felt my panic drift away a little as I ran forward.
It was dark, pitch black, but... listening to music didn't make things eerie anymore, and I kind of liked this.
Until I turned a corner.
I slid to a stop, eyes widening.
Across the street, under a blinking lamp, stood a lean figure, eyes glowing dangerously as he eyed me.
My breathing stilled, and I stared.
He just stood there, watching me.
He hadn't said anything, but... for some reason it made this more menacing.
But all the sudden my earbuds crapped out, and I cried out when they started blasting static.
Tearing them from my ears, I gazed up sharply to find the figure still there.
"Leave me alone, Sebastian!" I yelled. "This isn't funny! I don't know how you're doing this but stop it!"
He only smiled, never responding, and tapped his temple twice.
What?
And he suddenly vanished, making something cold consume me.
I stared, panting as every part of me grew hollow.
"Skye," someone said from behind me.
I cried out and pulled a knife from my pocket, pointing at him threateningly.
Sebastian stared down at me. "That seems like a minor overreaction, don't you think?"
I only held him at knife point. "Who are you?"
He blinked. "Uh, you've asked me this before, and my response is only the same."
I snarled at him. "What are you?"
He only smiled. "Is that supposed to be a question?"
"You're real," I said, poking his shoulder to make sure.
"Uh..." he said, "yes, I am real. What's going on?"
I only pulled the knife back, shaking my head.
No, if I told him, he'd think I was insane.
I was insane.
I was going crazy. That was the only explanation.
"So," Sebastian said, "wanna tell me what you're doing on the streets at two in the morning?"
"Wanna tell me why you're creepily standing under a lamp post?" I countered. "Following me everywhere like a stalker? Jump-scaring me like a psychopath?"
He blinked. "I'm not following you."
I glared. "Yes, you are."
"No," he countered.
"Then why are you here?" I questioned him. "Why do you keep entering my house?"
"Well..." he said, tipping his head to the side, "fair point."
"So you're following me?" I clarified.
He glanced down. "Not really, I just run into you a lot."
I gave him a disbelieving look.
He smiled. "Where you going? I can walk you."
"I'm not trusting you with that info," I replied, starting to walk, but I heard him following.
I turned, glaring at him. "Stop! Just go get your own life, you weirdo!"
Sebastian chuckled. "You look a little shaken. I should really walk you."
I blinked, processing this.
I wondered... if he walked me... if these things would stop.
It should've because if it was him, then he'd be with me, so he would scare me as his actual self, if it wasn't him, then...
Oh, I honestly didn't know.
I started walking then, and he skipped forward to follow me.
"Why are you awake?" he said then.
"If you're going to make small-talk after stalking me for all this time, I will kill you."
He just shrugged. "Then what should we talk about?"
"Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," I suggested.
He just laughed. "Sure, sure."
"How about this," I said, glancing around to find nothing suspicious, "how do you know me?"
He sputtered his lips. "Ooh, that's a hard one."
I glared. "Doesn't seem hard to me."
"You didn't know me until a couple days ago, I've known you longer."
I glanced over at him. "That's not unsettling or anything."
"It should be," he replied, smirking, "I worded it to be."
I glared then. "Are you scaring me on purpose?"
"Maybe," he said.
I sighed and shook my head. "Why?"
"It's fun," he replied honestly.
I just glanced around again...
No shadows, no scares, and the... world didn't seem horrifying to me anymore.
Was his presence stopping them? What the hell?
I still couldn't tell if he was the cause of them or not, but magic didn't exist... so he shouldn't have been, right?
Maybe I just needed a presence to stop the hallucinations.
Because... I was going insane.
"Lost in thought there, Kiki?" Sebastian asked me.
I glanced over at him. "I was just thinking."
"About what?" he said, brows arching.
I opened my mouth to answer but shut it. "Nothing."
His eyes raked me, and I just gazed up. "Oh, we're here."
He glanced up at the house we were standing at, and tipped his head to the side. "Why are we here?"
"This is Neveah's house," I told him. "I'm going to stay here tonight."
"Oh?" he said. "Why?"
I gave him a disbelieving look. "Because of you, mister 'breaking and entering.'"
He smirked, and I just shook my head, walking forward as he remained in place behind me.
Though I just slipped in the crack of Neveah's window, hearing her moan in annoyance.
"Skye...?" she said. "That you?"
"Yeah," I said, "sorry."
"It's fine," she told me. "Just go to sleep, okay?"
I nodded, closing the window and locking it, and I finally ended up pulling out the extra mattress from under her bed, and I caught an excess blanket from her bed, lying on the mattress and falling asleep seconds later.
Was he gone? I didn't know. Was he the cause? I didn't know either.
But what I did know... was that his presence was somehow stopping these events.
