I stared down at my plate, barely eating my food as I listened to the conversation Sebastian's friend group was having.
"Damn, bro!" one said. "Is that a new tattoo?"
I gazed up to find Sebastian smirking, and he lowered the sleeve of his jacket, revealing black spiral-like runes covering his upper arms and shoulders.
I stared while sipping my juice box.
Woah... those were... cool.
They reminded me of... something, though I couldn't remember what.
"Bro!" his friend said, staring in confusion. "How are they so black? They look like they're marker!"
"Yeah, that's cool," another replied.
Sebastian suddenly looked up at me, and I stilled.
"They are cool," he said, smirking, "aren't they?"
I gasped silently, but sucked in juice, and I choked, coughing repeatedly as I tried to get it out of my system, but when I gazed up, still coughing, Sebastian looked as if he were trying not to laugh.
I only stared back down, getting the juice from my system.
Goddamn him... why did he have to have this lunch and Neveah didn't? I was going to go insane with him around.
When I stared back up, he was focused on his friends as they continued to talk about his tattoos, and he was smiling and responding to their questions.
They didn't look like tattoos, though... they looked like... ink.
But he just gazed up at me from the corner of his eye and smirked, and I froze again.
Why did he keep doing that? It was freaking me out...
Right?
But I stared down at my plate of cold pizza and my bowl of soup, and I sighed and stood, tossing my juice on the plate and stood, making my way over to the trashcan.
I tipped it in, sighing as the food fell into the bag.
"That's a lot of waste, Kiki."
I screamed again, staring up to find Sebastian there.
"I said to stop that!" I yelled.
"And did I ever said I'm a good listener?" he replied, smirking. "Nope. Nada."
I just sighed and stepped away, and I glared forward when I heard him following.
I turned. "Go back to your massive amount of friends, so they can fawn over your tattoos."
He smiled. "That means you were listening."
I clenched my jaw.
He only stood above me as I sat down, grabbing my backpack and shoving stuff into it.
"You look lonely over here, though," he said, kneeling down. "You need company."
"I'm fine," I told him, "and I was better with you not here."
He laughed softly. "You say that... but still you were listening to my conversation."
"Blah—blah," I said, "shut your oversized ego, I'm sick of it."
He arched his brows, but I just sat back against the wall.
"Packed for class so early?" he asked me, smirking. "It doesn't even start for ten minutes. And you can't leave the lobby without the security guards hunting you down."
"Blah—blah," I said again, waving him away. "Leave me alone, Sebastian."
He only smiled. "Alright. If you say so."
I sighed when he stood, yawning as he stepped back over to his friends.
But I closed my eyes tightly, knowing I had to ask him...
"Sebastian."
He glanced back over at me. "Yes?"
"Don't come to my house tonight," I told him, glaring, "or I swear I will shoot you."
The group of girls next to me laughed as if they thought I was joking.
He only smirked. "No promises."
My glare sharpened, and he just stepped back to his friends who suddenly started questioning him about me.
I only rolled my eyes and pulled out my phone.
He could deal with them. I didn't care.
No promises.
I narrowed my eyes.
He better not... and if he did...
If he did I didn't know what I would do, honestly. I'd probably just have to kick him out again... but I also wanted to question him; not that he'd give me answers.
I sighed, resting my head against the wall.
Was I going insane?
My neighbors were fine, and I swore I saw them get shot... I didn't understand...
I didn't understand what was happening to me.

"Hey, mom," I said as I stepped down the stairs. "You haven't left yet?"
"Not yet," she replied as she finished the last dish, gazing down at me. "I have to leave in twenty minutes, but your dad's plane left earlier."
"Ah, I see..." I replied, staring off.
She watched me curiously. "Everything alright?"
"Yeah," I replied, gazing back up.
She sighed then, and set the rag on the counter after drying her hands. "So, while you were in the shower, your phone rang."
"Oh?" I said.
"Yeah," she replied, watching me carefully. "I picked it up for you. It was the police."
I froze.
"They said you called and then hang up, what happened?"
Took them long enough. I called them last night and they are usually supposed to call back right away.
I laughed nervously. "Oh, I accidentally called them."
Mom arched a brow.
"Yeah," I said, rolling my eyes and feigning amusement, "I accidently butt dialed them last night. My bad."
She just nodded, clearly believing me. "Alright."
She turned to finish the last thing.
I closed my eyes tightly.
God... I... I couldn't believe this.
I couldn't tell her... Because... it probably never happened.
It never happened! I saw him get shot, and he was completely fine. If I told mom, I was scared she'd think I was insane... and then I'd get put in a mental hospital.
I wasn't insane, was I?
No... I couldn't have been.
Maybe... it was just my imagination.
"Hey, mom?" I said then.
She gazed back up at me. "Yeah?"
"I—uh," I hesitated, "I need some help with school. You know... a big test in calculous is coming up. You are an expert in math... is there some way you can stay?"
Mom smiled softly. "You want me to cancel the trip?"
I nodded, gazing back up.
She sighed and shook her head. "Honey, I'm sorry, but I can't. This is a big meeting that I could lost my job if I don't attend."
"Oh..." I said, something cold washing through me, "okay."
"I'll be back in two days," she promised, stepping up and gently kissing my forehead. "Dad'll be back in three. I'll help you then, okay?"
I forced a smile. "Okay."
I wanted her to stay so I felt more secure, but... I didn't want her to lose her job. That would've made me feel horrible—especially when everything that was happening wasn't... real.
She just kissed my forehead again and stepped over to her suitcase that was in the living room.
"Alright, sweets," she said, "I gotta go."
"Hey, mom?" I said then.
She looked back up.
"When you met dad," I said slowly, "was he ever... mysterious?"
"Mysterious how?" she asked me.
I hesitated, treading carefully. "Uhm. Like was he secretive? In high school?"
"Not really," she replied, gazing off for a moment, "no, not really. Why?"
"I met a guy on a street," I said to her, lying through my teeth. "And he was creepy and mysterious, and he said he knew dad?"
Mom shook her head. "Don't believe him, okay? He's probably on drugs."
I nodded then. "Okay."
Mom smiled. "Bye, honey. Call me tomorrow, okay?"
"Alright," I said.
She then left through the front door, and I stared after her as she shut it.
I stood there, continuing to stare as her car lights turned on and waved around the curtains... before they vanished completely.
"That's a predicament," someone said next to me.
I screamed, spinning around and gasping.
And it was Sebastian, of course.
I had to get used to that.
I breathed shallowly. "How do you keep getting in? I locked all the doors!"
He only smiled. "There's always a way in, Skye. The question is... if you can find it."
I shook my head. "Get out."
"I make killer French toast," he told me, smirking. "Want some?"
"I want you to get out," I told him. "And... stop jump scaring me like that. It's making me uneasy."
He stared for a moment. "Is something wrong?"
I glared at him. "No, so leave me alone."
"Unlike your mother," Sebastian replied, leaning against the wall, "I can tell when you're lying. Why did you call 9-1-1 last night?"
I shot him a look. "Why do you think? You were in my house last night! I will call them again!"
He only stared at me. "But you hung up."
I pulled back, thoughts tumbling.
"Your phone was upstairs," he explained to me. "So, you call them after I leave, and then hang up? Either you're lying or you're having second thoughts about me."
I drew back slightly. "That's none of your business."
His eyes darkened. "Tell me."
"Or what?" I said, throwing my hands up. "You're going to kill me?"
He never responded.
Despite the cold developing inside, I pointed to the door. "Out."
He remained in place.
"OUT," I said again. "And stop coming back in here if you don't want me to call them."
He just sighed and shook his head, stepping to the front door and exiting the house.
I slammed the door shut behind him and locked it, making my way over to the kitchen and grabbing a steak-knife.
I caught it tightly and did one last check around the house to make sure the doors and windows were locked.
And they were...
How did he keep...? What the hell?
I just bit back my worry and made my way over to the couch, sitting down on it while staring up at the TV.
After turning on the night news, I laid back, trying to stay awake.
